Luxembourg is a pretty small market. Most industries are dominated by a handful of companies. So is the market for job search portals. Monster.lu and jobs.lu are the leaders and have a combined market share of more than 80%. So how do you enter such a market? With a new business model.
The traditional job portal business model relies on companies buying ads for their job vacancies. Some portals also ask seekers to pay for premium services. In both cases companies and job seekers need to spend money without knowing whether their efforts will yield any success or not.
jobs.yellow.lu thought about doing it differently. Instead of paying upfront, yellow jobs allows companies to post jobs ads for free. They even receive the CVs of suitable candidates for free! The only thing they don’t get for free are the name and contact details of the applicant. The company can have a look at the CVs and decide which candidates sound interesting. If they want to go to the next step and invite a candidate they buy the contact details. The value proposition is clear: reduced cost, full control over the money spend, money spend only for the CVs that suit your idea of an ideal candidate, and thus less risk.
